Dr. Brackett Publishes About Male Infertility After SCI

Nancy L. Brackett, Ph. D., Research Professor, Departments of Neurological Surgery, Urology and The Miami Project, published a study that was a collaboration with colleagues at the São Paulo Federal University in Brazil. The study, titled: Towards Understanding Male Infertility After SCI Using Quantitative Proteomics published in Molecular & Cellular Proteomics, shows for the first time, a proposed molecular mechanism for abnormal semen quality, particularly, low sperm motility in men with spinal cord injury (SCI). The results strongly indicate involvement of the immune system in this problem. This study described SCI-related infertility on a proteomic level, providing strong molecular evidence for the factors leading to impaired sperm functionality.
